Pop Culture Advent 2023: Door 2

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow – Gabrielle Zevlin.
One of my ambitions for 2023 was to read more, something I’d found quite hard to do last year amongst the chaos of various life events. Thankfully I managed to get back on track this year, and my reads included this gorgeous book.
The story follows 3 friends, Sam, Sadie, and Marx, over their careers as makers of video games. Starting out as students, their ambitions eventually lead them to co-managing a successful video game company. The book’s main focus is Sam and Sadie’s tumultuous friendship, from first meeting as children, to then navigating that through relationships, careers, and grief.
As a gamer, I particular appreciated the fictional games that Zevlin has created for the plot – and really wanted to play them! I also enjoyed learning the inner workings of an indie game studio.
However, if you’re not a gamer – don’t let that put you off. Tomorrow and tomorrow and Tomorrow is so much more than that. This is a beautifully written book about the changing nature of friendship, the passion and love that fuels the creation of art, and navigating yourself through life following tragic, life changing, events.
The film rights for Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow have been purchased by Paramount & Temple Hill Entertainment, with Zevlin to write the script.
The book is out now in paperback.
