Everything is terrible BUT…

10 nice things to keep your mind off Covid, Coups, and other Bad Things. (Sunday 10th January 2021)

  1. This hat. In the December issue of Vanity Fair, actress Gemma Chan (Humans, Crazy Rich Asians) wears this incredible hat. I was rather taken with this hat. Can you imagine sitting on the bus with this kind of hat on? No, me neither. But I’d love to try. You can see more of said hat (and read the article it was featured in) online at Vanity Fair.

2. SeaShanty Tik Tok. I confess, I’m still getting my head around Tik Tok. But coming across this wholesome video of bearded men doing close harmony singing, may persuade me to get on board. (On board? Ship? Geddit?….)

3. Wandavison comes to Disney+ on Friday. With Black Widow having been delayed last year cos of you know what, it’s great to have some new Marvel content. According to first reactions, it’s sounding very good indeed.

4. This Dog living his best life. (thank you to my sister for bringing this clip to my attention).

5. Mini Eggs Chocolate. Mini eggs — in a chocolate bar. I had a bar this week. In fact, it was my second one in total. I suspect they’ll be many more. I got mine from B & M, but they can be found in many places.

6. Tom Hanks. Just because. I feel so much better just knowing he’s around. His next film will be News of The World, which you read about here. Check out his instagram where he posts photos of his typewriter collection and of gloves that he finds in the street. I can also recommend his episode of Desert Island Discs. He’s great.

7. Dresses from Popsy Clothing. I was looking for a fun festive dress before Christmas and stumbled across Popsy Clothing. Their prints are amazing (I own their Robin, Hedgehog, and Cat Dresses), they have a range of sizes inc plus size, AND THE DRESSES HAVE POCKETS. (I cannot stress enough how much the last thing makes me happy). They drop you a jolly email after you buy a dress. I promise i’m not being paid for this (i wish!), I just really really love their stuff.

8. I really enjoyed revisiting The Secret Life of Mary Poppins, currently on BBC Iplayer. It’s a documentary which was first shown a few years ago, alongside the release of Saving Mr Banks. Presented by Victoria Coren, it delves into the life of Mary Poppin’s author, PL Travers. Quite dark in places, it’s a really interesting watch. Also features interviews with Emma Thompson and PL Travers’s granddaughter.

9. Baby Goats. Jumping about. Just because.

10. I’m really enjoying reading the Inside №9 scripts that were gifted to me at Christmas (thanks Mum & Dad!). I loved the series anyway, but reading the scripts is giving me a whole new appreciation of just how good the writing is. The scripts can be bought here (or at any good bookshop!), and you can watch the series here.
